Barbs Legacy – Women’s Mental Health & Well‑being Group FAQ

Barbs Legacy is a warm, friendly women’s mental health and well‑being group run by The Sparkle Foundation UK in memory of Barbs, creating a dedicated space to focus on your emotional health, practical solutions and education.

The group is for women of any age who are struggling with their mental health or general well‑being, whether you are facing stress, anxiety, low mood, grief, or simply feel you need a supportive community.

Each session offers time to talk, listen and share with others, alongside mental health education, tools for coping day‑to‑day, and space to explore practical solutions in a safe, non‑judgemental environment. You don’t have to talk, just come for a cuppa.

You do not need a formal referral – women are welcome to drop in and just give it a try, though you can contact us in advance if you’d like to discuss your needs or are feeling nervous about attending.

Barbs Legacy runs as an ongoing weekly group rather than a fixed‑length course, so you can attend regularly, come when you are able, and stay involved for as long as it feels helpful.

Sessions take place every Wednesday from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm at Helston Cattle Market (The Old Cattle Market), with access via the side entrance.

There is no cost to attend Barbs Legacy; the group is completely free, supported by The Sparkle Foundation UK as part of their commitment to accessible mental health support.

Barbs Legacy is a women‑only space, and we ask that no children or pets are brought to the sessions so that everyone can feel safe, focused and fully supported.

The group is facilitated by experienced mental health professionals and trained volunteers from The Sparkle Foundation UK, bringing both professional expertise and lived experience to the support we provide.

Alongside the weekly group support, we have skilled facilitators on hand who are experienced in helping women through complex and crisis situations, such as sudden changes in housing, finances, relationships or health. They will listen carefully, help you make sense of what is happening, and work with you to identify realistic next steps so you feel safer and more in control.

We also offer our very own “citizens advice” style support within the group, led by an expert in local services, benefits and community resources. They can help you understand your rights, fill in forms, navigate referrals, and connect you to specialist organisations for issues like debt, domestic abuse, employment or caring responsibilities.

This means that when you come to Barbs Legacy you are not only heard and supported emotionally, but you can also access practical guidance and signposting, so you leave each session feeling more informed, more confident and better equipped to handle whatever you are facing.
